Xavi Hernandez concedes that Barcelona faced more difficulties than anticipated in their narrow victory over Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Sunday.
Despite being expected to comfortably defeat the fourth-tier team, Barcelona secured a 3-2 win to advance to the next round.
After taking a 2-0 lead, they faced a challenge when Barbastro scored, and Xavi acknowledged that some poor decisions made the game tougher than necessary.
“We have suffered more than necessary because of our fault, because of our mistakes,” said Xavi.
“The game gets complicated because we gave away a corner, it means 1-2 and they come out on top. For them it was the game of their life.
“I am left with the feeling that until the 1-2, which we gave away, we have been good in the game. And then with the penalty we suffered again. We give away things that we don’t have to give away.”
Xavi’s team is set for Supercopa de Espana action against Osasuna in Saudi Arabia later this week. A victory may lead to an early-year El Clasico encounter with Real Madrid, who will play against Atletico Madrid in the other semi-final.
Following the Supercopa, Barcelona will resume La Liga action on January 21, facing Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin.
The La Liga champions currently trail table leaders Real Madrid by seven points after a challenging first half of the 2023/24 season.
