If Manchester United win the FA Cup, who qualifies for the UEFA Europa League? This has become a trending question after Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

Erik ten Hag stunned Pep Guardiola as goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured a 2-1 win over Manchester City, ensuring the Red Devils got themselves into the UEFA Europa League despite finishing eighth in the Premier League.

So, what does this mean for Chelsea and Newcastle, who finished sixth and seventh respectively? Let’s take a look…

How FA Cup win impacts Chelsea and Newcastle

Manchester United winning the FA Cup spells bad news for both the Blues and the Magpies.

Chelsea had secured a UEFA Europa League spot by finishing sixth, although it has now been pinched off the west Londoners by Manchester United – who qualify ahead of the Blues as FA Cup winners.

In regards to Newcastle – who thought they had earned a spot in the UEFA Conference League next season – the Magpies will now have no European football on the schedule at all next season, as Chelsea take the UEFA Conference League slot.

Having said that, Chelsea will actually have to navigate through a two-legged play-off to even reach the UEFA Conference League Group Stage, so it is possible that neither the Blues or the Magpies partake in European football at all next season.
