Ally McCoist has been left stunned after what he’s heard about Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Tottenham will host Manchester City tomorrow night in what promises to be an interesting 90 minutes for Spurs fans.

Should Aston Villa pick up a win against Liverpool tonight, the north Londoners will technically have little to play for given it would secure fourth place for Unai Emery’s men.

Spurs will also be aware of the fact that picking up a result against City could hand their north London rivals Arsenal a huge advantage in the Premier League title race.

The reigning champions would leapfrog the Gunners with a win over Ange Postecoglou’s side in their game in hand tomorrow night.

It’s led to some Tottenham fans hoping to see their side lose tomorrow night to prevent their rivals from lifting the title. But Ally McCoist feels Spurs fans will surely want a victory if the result at Villa Park goes their way tonight.

McCoist’s verdict on Tottenham fans ahead of Man City clash

Speaking on talkSPORT [13/05 8:56 am], it was put to McCoist that many Tottenham fans want their side to lose tomorrow night.

“What a load of nonsense! Listen, I get it all, but if you get the opportunity to still qualify for Champions League football, you have got to take it,” he said.

“Come on. I can understand the dilemma, I get the dilemma, but you have got to go out and play the best you can, do your best, and, as I said, it’s a massive game tonight that will affect certainly tomorrow night as well.

“I understand the situation, but Spurs fans must want their team to qualify for the top four if there is an opportunity.”

Villa result could be key for Tottenham

Should Villa pick up a win tonight, it would likely mean that Spurs would finish fifth given they are six points ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle.

That would also lead to Spurs’ players having little to play for tomorrow night, which would hand City a huge advantage.

Regardless of the outcome at Villa Park, you’d imagine that Postecoglou will be keen to pick up a result.

It’s been a difficult end to the season for the Aussie boss and he doesn’t seem like the type of manager who would accept defeat just to spoil their rival’s title hopes.
