Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to build on the great work he has done at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners remain top of the Premier League table and firmly in the picture for the title, the second year in which this has been the case.

Better yet, Arsenal’s foundations are strong and they look like they’ll continue to challenge for the title and the Champions League for years to come.

However, there’s certainly scope for the Gunners to strengthen further, with midfield likely to be an area looked at by Edu and Arteta.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update regarding a reported Arsenal target who has been deemed Kevin De Bruyne’s heir.

The player in question is Xavi Simons, and it looks as though a decision on his future will be made soon.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Arsenal target Xavi Simons?

Earlier today, Romano took to X to write: “Xavi Simons and PSG will decide future before the Euros — but PSG don’t want to sell Xavi this summer.

“Also, RB Leipzig can’t afford permanent move. Loan move, most likely option – Barça are pushing, Leipzig and PL clubs keen. Xavi will have a say in the loan decision.”

Now, Romano has provided an update on the social media platform, saying: “The most realistic and concrete option for Xavi Simons remains new loan for next season, as mentioned today.

“The final decision will be made in new meeting very soon but sale is being ruled out at this stage.”

Who is reported Arsenal target Xavi Simons?

Simons is just 21 years old, but his CV is already a ‘who’s who’ of illustrious clubs along with multiple major trophies.

He rose through the ranks at Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia setup before linking up with Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

Simons made his professional debut for PSG in February 2021 and won a Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France that season.

In 2022, he returned to the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, where he made a significant impact.

Simons won the KNVB Cup, Johan Cruyff Shield, and Eredivisie top scorer award, which prompted PSG to sign him again the following year.

This season, the Ligue 1 giants have loaned him to RB Leipzig, where he has made 42 appearances, with nine goals and 15 assists to his name.

Simons has also won 13 caps for the Netherlands and played at the 2022 World Cup for his nation.

As well as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have apparently been tracking the midfielder.

In March, CaughtOffside claimed that Manchester City were also eyeing the ‘world-class’ Dutchman.

They described Simons as a player ‘highly appreciated by Guardiola and considered De Bruyne’s possible heir.’

Simons certainly seems like a good shout for Arsenal. Perhaps they could try signing him on an initial loan deal, as they did with Martin Odegaard, and then push for his permanent signing a year later?
