‘Very probable’ Manchester City star leaves this summer amid La Liga interest

Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is widely regarded as a bargain, having arrived at the club for just €21.4m two summers ago, winning the World Cup six months later. However he has not managed to force his way into the starting XI under Pep Guardiola, and could be on the move.

Despite managing to do so for Argentina, the presence of Erling Haaland has proved too large an obstacle so far. On Tuesday is emerged that Atletico Madrid’s top target to strengthen their forward line, was Alvarez. A report from Argentine journalist Hernan Castillo, who has links to River, has claimed it is ‘very probable’ that Alvarez leaves the Etihad this summer.

But not to Atletico. As much as Los Colchoneros may be able to offer him a starting spot, ‘bigger clubs’ such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich could move for him, with a €94m price tag mentioned.

Clearly, that sort of money would rule out Atletico from any deal. It seems unlikely that Real Madrid wold move for Alvarez, given they are already over-stocked in their forward line with the arrivals of Endrick Felipe and Kylian Mbappe. Bayern Munich would have to convince Alvarez to play either out wide or in a two with Harry Kane – perhaps PSG make the most sense of any of the sides mentioned. Having just lost Mbappe, they will be looking to strengthen their forward line, although again, they already have Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos through the middle, albeit Alvarez may back himself to beat out that competition.
