UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has allegedly called Real Madrid President Florentino Perez ‘a racist’, according to text messages sent from the Slovenian to former RFEF President Luis Rubiales.
In a recent report, The Objective revealed details of talks between Rubiales, Ceferin and Barcelona players Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi to set up a fund diverting TV rights money to players in Spain who were facing wage cuts due to the pandemic in 2020. The fund would’ve been to the tune of €30m, although El Espanol claim that Messi wanted the solidarity fund to go to the players earning the least first, saying ‘I’d rather not take money’ if not all were compensated. Thus far, it appears no such fund was created.
More correspondence between Ceferin and Rubiales has been revealed, which dates back to a year prior to the alleged solidarity fund, when Ceferin and Perez were locked in battle over the proposed Superleague plans from Perez. Earlier that day, Ceferin had described Perez as egotistical in comments to the media.
LR: “I will speak with Florentino cause here in Spain if I have against me Tebas and and Florentino, [it] will be impossible for me. Let us think what is the best thing. He is a very proud man. I think we can try to speak and calm all, but I will continue 100% with you. Don’t worry for this. ALLWAYS.”
AC: “I am also proud don’t forget. I don´t want to speak with him. I would do it only because of you. He’s an idiot and a racist! Don’t calm things for me, I don´t need it. I just want you to be strong.”
It is once again a revealing insight into the behind the scenes operations of the highest levels of football, where elected figures negotiate deals and campaigns without the knowledge of the general public. Rubiales is currently embattled in two legal cases, as the anti-corruption force investigate his involvement in a corruption case in the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and he is also on trial for coercion and sexual assault, for his non-consensual kiss with Jenni Hermoso.
