There is an argument that Ilkay Gundogan was Barcelona’s best player during his debut season, and the 33-year-old looks set to lead the way again for Hansi Flick next year. However the veteran German international is receiving interest from abroad.
According to Sport, President of Galatasaray Dursun Ozbek is preparing to meet with Gundogan’s brother and agent in the coming days to try and persuade the ex-Manchester City playmaker to leave Catalonia after just one season. Ozbek publicly suggested it was a deal he wanted to make happen after their title celebrations, and Gundogan is one of three top additions he is targeting to compete in the Champions League next year.
While the Blaugrana are in desperate need of income from transfers this summer, it would take an enormous offer to prise Gundogan out of the club – if they can persuade him to leave. Barcelona would almost certainly benefit more from Gundogan’s presence on the pitch next season more than what would be on offer financially, but stranger things have happened. He has one year left on his deal this summer, with an option for another.
