In the quest for additional attacking firepower in the latter part of the 2023/24 season, Spurs efficiently secured Timo Werner’s signing after initiating discussions last week.

While Manchester United expressed interest in Werner earlier this winter, they opted not to pursue further, and the striker has now chosen Tottenham, where an optional purchase clause ranging from £13m to £17m has been reported.

Intriguingly, Spurs first entertained the idea of signing Werner in 2015 during his Stuttgart days.

Instead, they opted for Son Heung-min, the current first-team captain, who has remained with the club.

After Werner’s stint at Stuttgart, he solidified his status as one of Europe’s promising forwards during a four-year spell at Leipzig.

Following a successful chapter with Chelsea, contributing to their Champions League victory with 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games from 2020 to 2022, Werner returned to Leipzig for the 2022/23 season.

Despite his popularity, Werner fell short of expectations at Stamford Bridge and lost his starting spot to Lois Openda.

With 18 goals in 54 club games over the past year-and-a-half, he now joins Tottenham, aiming to bolster his chances of making Germany’s squad for Euro 2024. His potential debut could be on Sunday as Spurs face United.
