Things aren’t going well for Chelsea as of late, and questions are being asked of this squad.

Chelsea were title contenders at the end of 2024, now they’re clinging onto a European spot after a terrible recent run of form.

Chelsea have been poor as of late, and Chelsea’s bad run has coincided with a poor run of form from Cole Palmer.

Indeed, Palmer has been criticised as of late, and according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, a summer departure may not be out of the question.

According to the journalist, he’s spoken to people who know Todd Boehly well and he wouldn’t be surprised at all if Palmer was allowed to leave Chelsea this summer if a bid of around £85m came in.

Cole Palmer’s summer asking price

Kay spoke about Palmer’s future at Chelsea amid his poor run of form.

According to the journalist, Boehly may be up for selling Palmer this summer for around £85m.

Palmer has been one of Chelsea’s top performers over the past 18 months, but in the era of Profit and Sustainability rules, every player has their price.

“I’ll tell you what, doing what I do with the transfers and knowing how Todd Boehly works and talking to people who know how he thinks better than I do regarding Chelsea. It wouldn’t surprise me if an £80m or £85m bid came in and they would sell him,” Kay said.

“They bought him for £40m, if someone comes in at £80m or £85m, I think Boehly would go there and he would take it for the business.”

Cole Palmer stats in his last 10 games

Chelsea selling Palmer would have been unthinkable at the start of the season, but after watching his performances over the last few months, it’s become more and more justifiable.

Indeed, Palmer hasn’t been great as of late, and the numbers show it.

Of course, you can’t make snap judgements on a player after one difficult run of form, but, then again, Todd Boehly has often been the type of owner to make calls on a whim.

Sacking Mauricio Pochettino last summer was a controversial call too, but Boehly did decide to replace the Argentine at the end of last season.

Palmer has just signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea, so he’s likely to stay at Stamford Bridge for the forseeable, but, by the sounds of it, a departure in the summer isn’t as unthinkable as it would’ve been a few months ago.

£85m for Palmer could ultimately end up being a bargain for any buying club, so there may well be suitors willing to stump up that sort of cash for Palmer in the summer.
