Former Aston Villa forward Tony Cascarino says Arsenal have a player who is the ‘number one’ in his position in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s men are in action on Sunday afternoon, as they play host to Everton at Emirates Stadium on what could be a historic day.

Victory for the Gunners and a defeat or draw for Manchester City would see them crowned champions for the first time since 2004.

Ahead of the game, Cascarino has been hailing Arsenal and credited one man in particular for his role in their marvellous campaign.

Tony Cascarino says William Saliba is ‘number one’

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Sunday morning show (9:37am), Cascarino said William Saliba is the best centre-back in the Premier League.

“My first one is Saliba, who I have to say has now become the number one centre-half in the country,” the 61-year-old said.

“I think the composure plus the athleticism, and his ability of stopping and denying. He has made some great last-ditch challenges. You know, when you think people are in and suddenly he comes in with a big tackle.”

It’s hard to argue against that, really, perhaps Virgil van Dijk and Ruben Dias are the only two who could rival him for that feat.

Arsenal have another ‘number one’

Arsenal probably have two players in their squad who are the best in their position; Saliba and Declan Rice.

Rice has made such a big impact since arriving in a £105m deal from West Ham United last summer and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

Only Manchester City’s Rodri is comparable calibre and performance-wise this term.
