Guardiola TBR The important clause Man City have placed into Pep Guardiola’s new contract

TBR Football sources have confirmed that Pep Guardiola has told Manchester City that he is staying at the Etihad for at least one more season.

Guardiola’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and City have been locked in talks to try and agree fresh terms.

Confidence has been growing around City that Guardiola was going to stay and TBR Football revealed earlier this month that City hoped agreement would be reached during the current international break.

Guardiola commits to initial 12-month deal at City

Now sources have indeed confirmed to TBR Football that an agreement is in place and Guardiola has committed to a 12-month deal, with the option to extend to 2027 and we are told it is considered a rolling-contract by the club as they hope he will stay even longer.

The news is a huge boost for City, who are losing their sporting director Txiki Begiristain at the end of the season after he decided to step down – although his replacement has already been finalised with Sporting chief Hugo Viana stepping into the role.

The new deal for Guardiola will see him having served ten-years in charge of City – by far his longest stay since becoming a coach.

The 53-year-old previously spent four-years in charge of Barcelona up to 2012. He then joined Bayern Munich in 2013 and has three seasons with the German giants before joining City in 2016.

Premier League rivalry with Liverpool and Arsenal played part in new deal

TBR Football is told that one of the major reasons behind Guardiola committing to another deal at the Etihad is the competition that is ensuing at the top of English football.

Liverpool’s Arne Slot are mounting a serious challenge to City, whilst Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s rivalry with his former boss is nothing short of intriguing and another former Guardiola staffer in the shape of Enzo Maresca is threatening to turn Chelsea into title challenges.

Throw into the mix the fact that Ruben Amorim is taking charge at rivals Manchester United and it is not hard to see just what is keeping Guardiola interested.

We are also told that Guardiola does have real ambitions of managing at a World Cup finals and that chance could even come as early as the summer of 2026 and the new deal does mean that would be possible.
