Erik ten Hag has not ruled out the prospect of Anthony Martial remaining at Manchester United beyond the current season, confirming ongoing discussions regarding the striker’s contract.

Martial’s existing deal is set to conclude at the end of the season, with a standard club option for an additional 12 months until the summer of 2025.

While initial expectations leaned toward United not exercising this option due to Martial’s fitness and form challenges, Ten Hag has now indicated a potential reconsideration.

Raphael Varane is also engaged in discussions about his contract, sharing a similar situation with his compatriot.

Meanwhile, the club has already extended the contracts of three other players by triggering their options.

“We are talking with Rapha Varane and with Anthony Martial. We triggered the options on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal,” Ten Hag said on Thursday afternoon when he addressed the media ahead of United’s FA Cup third round tie against Wigan Athletic.

Anthony Martial, 28, has netted twice in 19 appearances across all competitions this season, often entering as a substitute in 12 of those games. Although injury-free, he has been absent from the last five matches due to illness.

In a press conference on Thursday, Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, faced inquiries about reports suggesting Jadon Sancho’s potential return to Borussia Dortmund before the January transfer window closes.

However, the Dutchman provided little clarification on the matter;

“I can’t say anything about that,” he continued. “We have to wait and see how things are going. When we have news, we will tell you.”
