Scott Minto says Liverpool defender was ‘absolutely superb’ v Ipswich

Liverpool are up and running in the Premier League as Arne Slot won his first competitive game in charge of the Reds.
Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners at newly-promoted Ipswich Town in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring on the hour mark, making amends for a poor miss minutes earlier by side-footing home Mohamed Salah’s low cross.
The provider turned goalscorer five minutes later as Salah netted from Dominik Szoboszlai’s pass for his record ninth opening-day goal.
In the end, it was a routine win for Liverpool, but the Anfield outfit noticeably struggled to get into gear in the first half in East Anglia.

Scott Minto hails Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson
Andrew Robertson was one of the players who struggled the most in the opening 45 minutes, though he improved in the second half.
TalkSPORT pundit Scott Minto admitted that he thought Robertson would be the first Liverpool player to come off as he found it so tough.
However, Minto was impressed with how the £160,000-a-week defender (Salarysport) performed after the interval until his 79th-minute substitution.
“I actually though he might be the first substitution, the first person to come off,” he said on talkSPORT (17/8/2024, 2:07pm)
“Obviously, that was Trent, but talk about players needing to be managed, Andy Robertson has had almost 80 minutes under the belt.
“And do you know what? It has been tough for him, but as ever he stood firm, and in the second half, like his teammates, I think he was absolutely superb.”

Robertson has received 6 out of 10 ratings all across the board today. Sky Sports gave him a 6, as did all the outlets mentioned below.
The Liverpool Echo wrote: “Started shakily both in terms of possession and positioning and appeared very rusty. Improved a bit after the break, though.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool.com wrote: “Wes Burns gave him a tough time on occasion, especially early on, but the Scotland captain recovered. He offered little in the way of an attacking threat.”
And Goal.com said: “The Scotland international made a clumsy start to the contest but became more solid as the game wore on.”
Perhaps Robertson was just rusty in the first game of the season, but he will want to do better over the coming weeks and months.
