Grealish lost his place in the England squad for Euro 2024 in the summer, and, once again, he’s struggling for minutes this season.

Grealish was linked with a return to Aston Villa in the summer, while Grealish was recently linked with Tottenham.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been discussing the idea of Grealish returning to Villa Park, and he believes this wouldn’t be a smart move for the England star.

Jack Grealish shouldn’t return to Aston Villa

Allardyce warned Grealish against signing for Aston Villa.

The former England manager says that going back to your former club can be a bad move, and he says that Grealish shouldn’t make this move.

“Does Jack Grealish need a move back to Aston Villa as much as Aston Villa need to re-sign Jack Grealish?

“Would Jack Grealish go back to Aston Villa? I’m not sure it’s always right to go back to your old club. I went back to Bolton after having such a great time there, and it was such a disappointment. It’s just not, if you’ve had a good time there will you emulate that? As much as the fans would love you, you need to think what you can achieve.”

Players who have re-signed for Aston Villa

Allardyce warns against re-signing for your former club, but Aston Villa haven’t had a terrible history when it comes to re-signing former players.

A lot of these players have been brilliant for Villa in both of their spells at the club, and the old adage of ‘never go back’ doesn’t seem to apply to Villa.

Ross Barkley has received plenty of praise for his performances this season, and perhaps Grealish could have the same sort of resurgence if he returned to Villa Park.

Of course, there would be a lot of pressure on Grealish if he did return to Villa Park, but he’d be returning to an environment where he is loved by the fans, and that could help him rediscover his best form.

Allardyce has warned Grealish against returning to Villa, but perhaps a move back to Villa Park wouldn’t be the worst idea for the midfielder.
