Ronald Araujo Opts for Surgery as Another Barcelona Defender Misses Training

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo will don a protective mask for the Catalan derby against Girona, playing through a fractured jaw sustained in the previous match against Atletico Madrid.

Araujo declined surgery to ensure availability for upcoming crucial fixtures and opted for the protective mask during training, intending to continue wearing it until his jaw heals.

Given the absence of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and limited appearances by first captain Sergi Roberto, Araujo’s leadership role for Barca has become increasingly significant.

Ronald Araujo is expected to wear a protective mask for approximately three weeks as he recovers from a fractured jaw, ensuring his availability for upcoming matches against Royal Antwerp, Valencia, and Almeria in the Champions League and La Liga. By January 4, 2024, Araujo is anticipated to resume playing without additional protection.
