Ronald Araujo seems committed to staying at Barcelona despite recent transfer speculation linking him with Bayern Munich.
The versatile defender signed a new long-term deal last year, valid until 2026. While delays in registering the contract were due to financial issues at Barcelona, Araujo, who captained Barca in the recent Champions League win over Porto, appears content for the short term.
“It is very special to wear the armband. It is a pride and a responsibility,” Araujo mentioned at an event by the Barca Foundation. Earlier this year, Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United had inquired about Araujo’s availability. Despite interest from Juventus, Inter, and Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona insisted the contract delay wouldn’t impact Araujo’s long-term stay.
Having joined Barcelona in 2018 at the age of 19, Araujo rose from the B team to the first team, becoming a vital player since 2021. Added to the formal leadership group this season as the third captain, Araujo wore the armband against Porto in the absence of Sergi Roberto and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
