The English football is currently witnessing a major footballing turnaround, as American investors are buying top EPL clubs like Aston Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and most recently Chelsea which was acquired by American billionaire Todd Boehly.

We know these businessmen invest in these clubs due to financial gains and some being a big fan of the club, but why will anyone want to buy a club in the National League in England.

Wrexham Football fairytale story began in 2020, just during the Covid-19 lockdown, American and Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were rumored to be interested in buying a football club.

Wrexham AFC is a traditional club as it was the 3rd most oldest club in the world with a rich history amongst fans. But over the years the club has struggled due to financial difficulties and the club almost went bankrupt in 2011 but the fans came to its rescue and bought the major shares to keep the club alive.

In 2020, Ryan and Rob planned for a complete takeover and believed they can change the club success story and take it to the very top.

They conducted Zoom meetings with members of the club and discussed their plans and ideas for the club. They made an offer and also agreed to make a £2M in the players and club’s stadium and facilities.

Due to Ryan and Robs influence in the movie industry, they made a Netflix documentary that followed the club purchase, investments and the club’s success journey along the way.

The documentary series was named “Welcome To Wrexham” and it was a major success.

Since the new owners took over, Wrexham has made huge profits from revenue which has hit an all time high of over £2.57M.

The club has also witnessed other achievements, Wrexham social media accounts has exploded as they recorded over 2M+ new followers on their cross platforms.

They also secured kit sponsorship deals from top brands like Expedia, Vistaprint, Aviation American Gin and social media giant TikTok.

Wrexham AFC success wasn’t just off the pitch, they also had success on the pitch too. They gained promotion to League 2 of the English professional league and ended their 15-years absence from English football League.

Even though they’re still a long way from the top tier of the English league, it show Wrexham AFC are on the right track and Ryan Reynold and Rob McElhenney have done a great job in returning the club from it’s lost fortune.
