Manchester United and Arsenal are both wanting new players this summer but one talented youngster could be more likely to wind up at Old Trafford than The Emirates.

With new United owners INEOS in place, the Old Trafford faithful are expecting to see a number of new signings arrive in what will be a busy summer for the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning to overhaul a number of areas and that includes the playing squad and academy.

Of course, Arsenal are also on the lookout for new players and Mikel Arteta is looking to sell a few before signing fresh faces.

However, one talented youngster who both clubs want, Chris Rigg, is looking more likely to be on his way to Man United than Arsenal right now.

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Rigg is expected to depart this summer and has a number of big clubs keen on signing him.

One of those is Manchester United and the Red Devils are apparently preparing their first move.

Rigg has yet to sign professional terms with Sunderland as he doesn’t turn 17 until the middle of June and United are looking to strike.

It’s claimed that a number of clubs including Arsenal and according to TBR Football sources, Newcastle, also really like the idea of signing Rigg, but it is United who feel they’re in pole position.

INEOS are believed to see Rigg as an integral signing as they look to make a statement around rebuilding the younger side of the club’s football operations.

16 is no age for a footballer, let alone for a footballer who looks like having a world of options at his feet.

But this is what is going to happen for Chris Rigg this summer and it looks like it might simply come down to who offers him the best project and route forward.

He is highly-rated at Sunderland and Tony Mowbray has lauded the teenager previously, commenting on his enormous potential and brilliant left foot.

“He’s not a big, strong, physical, guy – he’s quite slight – but he has a wonderful left foot and he is an incredibly competitive animal. I’ve seen him for 20-30 minutes in an U21 game against Southampton, and his potential looks enormous to me,” Mowbray said.

Rigg, then, looks like being a star of the future in the Premier League and beyond.
