Tottenham Hotspur have work to do in the transfer window this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to improve his squad’s overall quality and strength in depth.
Spurs began the season brightly under their new manager and, up until mid-April, were still in the picture for a Premier League top-four finish.
However, a run of four consecutive league defeats has now left Tottenham looking over their shoulders just to finish fifth in the table.
The foundations are certainly there, and this summer should see Spurs add more quality to their ranks.
A report from Spain has now claimed that Tottenham have made an approach for a forward deemed ‘one of the most talented players of his generation’.
The player in question is Barcelona’s Vitor Roque, who joined the La Liga club to much fanfare in the January transfer window this season.
However, the 19-year-old – who joined for an initial £26million – has made just 13 appearances for his new club, for a total of just 310 minutes of football.
With that in mind, AS has reported that both Barca and Roque’s camp are considering the player’s future for next season.
Tottenham, ‘with whom almost everything was agreed upon’ before the player swapped Athletico Paranaense for Barca, have knocked on the door, according to the report.
However, Spurs are far from the only suitors for Roque. He’s said to have around 30 different enquiries about a potential summer switch, including the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Napoli.
Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Vitor Roque?
Roque, who was born in Timoteo, Minas Gerais, began his football journey at America Mineiro in 2015, before linking up with Cruzeiro’s academy in 2019.
He broke into the first team two years later and then joined Athletico Paranaense in 2022, where he made a name for himself as one of Brazil’s top talents.
Roque’s 28 goals and 11 assists from 81 competitive outings earned him a move to Barca at the end of last year, with a contract running until 2031.
Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has described Roque as “one of the most talented players of his generation, not only in Brazil but also South America”.
Kulig also compared the reported Tottenham target to Brazil legend Ronaldo and gave him a 10/10 rating for potential.
All in all, Roque looks like an amazing player to bring on board at Tottenham, but there will no doubt be a lot of competition for his services.
We’ll also have to see whether Barca opt to loan him out, sell him outright (this seems unlikely, in all fairness) or give him another chance in the first-team in 2024/25.
