It has just emerged, that Chelsea are now considering a ‘football genius’ to become Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.

The West Londoners parted ways with Pochettino on Tuesday evening which came as quite the shock to many supporters.

Pochettino seemed to have found a rhythm with his new-look side and ended the season with four wins on the bounce.

Though, Todd Boehly took the decision to move him on and now the search for his successor has just begun, with a new name linked.

Chelsea admire Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is admired by Boehly and club chief Behdad Eghbali.

Howe, who was once labelled a ‘football genius’, has taken Newcastle from a relegation-threatened side to competing at the top end of the table.

The former Bournemouth man led them to a Champions League campaign in his first full season and has, in difficult circumstances, again qualified for Europe last term.

Howe has implemented a ‘high pressing’ style on Tyneside and his football has often blown teams away as they struggle to match their intensity.

So, it begs the question, would he be a good fit at Chelsea?

Howe fits the profile of manager Boehly is after.

Aged just 46, he is still considered a young coach in the Premier League and his dynamic style of play seems to align with Boehly’s idea.

Further, the Magpies boss has a great record of developing young players, as evidenced by Anthony Gordon – who has gone to another level under his stewardship.

The only issue is how much Newcastle will demand for his signature.
