Aston Villa have enjoyed a superb season that has seen them secure a place in the Champions League next season.

The Villans are fourth in the Premier League table with 68 points from 36 games, and Tottenham Hotspur can’t catch up with them now.

Unai Emery has worked wonders at Villa since taking the reins, and this summer could yet see more top reinforcements arrive at B6.

Now, the Villans have reportedly set their sights on a player who Fabrizio Romano once described as “one of the best talents in the world”.

The player in question is Spain Under-21 midfielder Gabri Veiga, who joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli from Celta Vigo last summer.

GiveMeSport have reported that Villa are looking to steal a march on the 21-year-old’s signature after he indicated his desire to return to European football.

The Villans are apparently wanting to hold speedy negotiations over Veiga as they’ll be aware he will be in demand if he pushes for a summer move away.

And though Al-Ahli want to keep hold of the Spaniard, they’ll be forced to consider sanctioning his departure if he’s eager to leave, added the report.

Gabri Veiga would be a great shout for Aston Villa

Aston Villa have pulled off some real coups in the transfer market in recent years.

The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby, Leon Bailey and Nicolo Zaniolo have all worn – or are still wearing – the famous claret-and-blue.

Now, Villa will fancy their chances of bringing Veiga to the West Midlands, especially since they’ll be in the Champions League next term.

He’d no doubt be a regular starter for Emery, and having a compatriot and fellow Spanish speaker in charge would help him acclimatise to life in a new country and a new league.

Last year, Romano said of Veiga: “He’s more of a quality player, but he’s an electric player, I really like him, he’s one of the best talents in the world.”

Let’s see what happens in the coming months, but this certainly seems like a good lead for Villa.
