Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his already-impressive squad further.

The Gunners are still very much in the picture for the Premier League title and will be hoping to take it to the last day of the season.

No matter what happens, Arsenal will be confident of being able to compete for the Premier League title – and the Champions League – next season.

At the same time, there’s always scope for Arteta and Edu to bolster their ranks, and some top players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium of late.

Now, a report from GiveMeSport has claimed that Arsenal have made enquiries with the agents of one of the most exciting wingers in European football.

The report claims that the Gunners have been in talks with the representatives of Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams.

Arsenal reportedly tried to gauge whether the Spain international would be interested in a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners are seriously considering triggering the £43million release clause written into Williams’ contract as they believe he represents good value for money, added the report.

Who is Arsenal target Nico Williams?

Williams began his football journey at Osasuna before joining the Athletic academy in 2013 and rising through the ranks.

The 21-year-old has become a star at the San Mames, registering 19 goals and 23 assists from 119 outings for the Basque club.

Williams’ efforts helped Athletic win the Copa del Rey this year, ending their 40-year wait for silverware.

Just to show how highly rated Williams is at present, ESPN recently ranked him high up in their list of the top 39 youngsters in world football.

The reported Arsenal target was 16th in the ranking, ahead of the likes of Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

Williams has been labelled an “incredible” athlete, and there have been suggestions that he’s faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Let’s see what happens in the coming months. Hopefully Arteta will be able to persuade Williams to make the move to N5, which would be a major statement signing for Arsenal.
