Real Madrid Sets 2024 Deadline in Bid to Secure Kylian Mbappe Transfer

Real Madrid has issued a warning to Kylian Mbappe, stipulating that he must finalize a decision on his future by mid-January if he intends to join the Santiago Bernabeu.

As Mbappe approaches the final six months of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, he gains the freedom to engage in discussions with overseas clubs from January.

Madrid, eager to secure Mbappe, is cautious due to the Frenchman’s earlier decision to reject them in the summer of 2022, opting for a new deal with PSG.

Consequently, Madrid has communicated to Mbappe the necessity of a clear decision by mid-January, signaling their intent to explore alternative transfer options if needed.

The financial aspect poses a challenge, with Madrid reluctant to disrupt their wage structure and likely to convey to Mbappe the need to reject higher offers to facilitate the move to Bernabeu.

It is known that Mbappe waived a €80m loyalty bonus for staying with PSG beyond last summer, reaffirming his intention not to extend the contract beyond 2024.

The 25-year-old has reportedly communicated to PSG officials his intention not to renew his contract. Despite this, there is optimism in France that Real Madrid may balk at meeting Mbappe’s wage expectations, leaving room for another contract extension with PSG.

In the previous summer, Mbappe declined an opportunity to engage with Al Hilal, despite PSG accepting a €300m bid for his transfer after listing him. Subsequent discussions with PSG resulted in Mbappe’s reinstatement into the first team, fostering Madrid’s confidence that a deal remains plausible.

Real Madrid has other priorities for the upcoming summer, including a potential acquisition of left-back Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich. Consequently, the club is keen not to expend resources pursuing Mbappe if there is uncertainty about his commitment to the move.
