Seattle Sounders play host to Liga MX side Pumas UNAM in Leagues Cup Round of 16 play at Lumen Field.

The Sounders booked their place in the Round of 16 following their 3-1 triumph over LA Galaxy in front of their supporters. LA were more likely to advance to the next round of Leagues Cup due to the talent they have in the final third, but Seattle managed to silence their critics to pull off an upset after scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes.

On the other side of the matchup, Pumas picked up a 2-0 win over MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place to clinch their place in the last 16 of the tournament. Both of the starting wingers for Pumas — Cesar Huerta and Jorge Ruvalcaba — were on the scoresheet to propel the Mexican club to victory.

Here’s 90min‘s preview of the Sounders vs Pumas.

Winter signing Pedro de la Vega is set to miss the next week or so with a groin injury sustained in the defeat to Necaxa. Should the Sounders progress in Leagues Cup, there’s a chance that their No. 10 could make a return before the tournament’s conclusion.

Seattle Sounders predicted lineup vs Pumas UNAM ( 4-2-3-1 ): Thomas; Alex Roldan, Gomez, Ragen, Tolo; Paulo, Atencio; Cristian Roldan, Rusnak, Chu; Morris.

Pumas have no new injuries to report on in their camp ahead of the clash vs Seattle.

Pumas UNAM predicted lineup vs Seattle Sounders ( 4-2-3-1 ): Gonzalez; Bennevendo, Nathan, Duarte, Magallan; Quispe, Caicedo; Ruvalcaba, Pussetto, Huerta; Martinez.

Seattle will be full of confidence heading into this one after their upset victory over the Galaxy, but they’re now taking on a team that’s typically one of the best in Liga MX.

The Sounders will manage to keep things close for most of the match before Cesar Huerta finds a late winner to end Seattle’s Leagues Cup run and keep Pumas’ shot at a CONCACAF Champions Cup berth alive.

Prediction: Seattle Sounders 1-2 Pumas UNAM
