Onana Criticizes Anfield Atmosphere in Man Utd’s Draw with Liverpool

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has dismissed any suggestion that he felt intimidated by the Anfield atmosphere during Sunday’s goalless draw with Liverpool.

Despite concerns about United’s form and their previous 7-0 defeat at Anfield, Onana asserted that he was unfazed by the crowd and highlighted his team’s ability to contain Liverpool’s attacks.

Onana’s blunt response came in his first appearance at Anfield in front of spectators, having previously visited with Ajax during the Covid-affected 2020/21 season.

“I felt nothing,” he told United’s Sam Homewood.

Despite a shaky start on crosses, Onana recovered admirably and made eight crucial saves in Sunday’s match, playing a pivotal role in helping Manchester United secure a valuable point.

Liverpool’s 34 shots were often off target or blocked, and United arguably had the best chances, with Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund both denied by close-range saves from Alisson in the second half.

The draw prevented Liverpool from reclaiming the top spot in the Premier League, with Arsenal securing a win against Brighton. Aston Villa also has an opportunity to move into first place temporarily with a victory against Sheffield United on Friday.

While United broke free from their recent struggles against Bournemouth and Bayern Munich, they face a challenging away fixture against West Ham next Saturday under Erik ten Hag’s management.
