Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Engages in Discussions with Turkish Club Regarding Managerial Position

Since his departure from the Red Devils in November 2021, Solskjaer has been linked to various managerial positions.

The latest potential opportunity for the Norwegian is at Besiktas, following the departure of manager Riza Calimbay.

According to NTV Spor, Besiktas has initiated negotiations with Solskjaer to take over from Calimbay, who left the club in fifth place in the Super Lig table.

Besiktas has faced challenges in domestic competitions this month, experiencing losses to Alanyaspor and city rivals Fenerbahce, along with a draw against Ankaragucu.

Additionally, they suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to Club Brugge in the Europa Conference League but secured a 2-0 victory over Lugano on the final matchday to finish third in their group.

Commencing his managerial journey overseeing United’s Under-21 side in 2008, Solskjaer later took on coaching duties at Molde in Norway in 2011.

After a brief stint with Cardiff City in 2014 and a return to Molde in 2015, Solskjaer answered United’s call in December 2018, initially as a caretaker following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal. His success in steering the team’s performance led to his permanent appointment in March 2019.

While lauded for his man-management and big-game prowess at United, Solskjaer faced criticism for the team’s inability to secure silverware.

Despite a high-profile summer in 2021 with the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils struggled to make significant progress, leading to Solskjaer’s early departure in the season.

Ralf Rangnick took over as United’s interim boss for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, with Solskjaer graciously providing an honest assessment of the playing squad. In April 2022, Erik ten Hag was unveiled as the club’s permanent manager.
