Serie A side Bologna will now take part in the UEFA Champions League and this was confirmed after Roma lost to Atalanta today.

Because of Juventus’ draw against already relegated Salernitana, Bologna stayed at third following their convincing win over Napoli yesterday. They needed a favour from Atalanta today to confirm their spot in the Champions League and La Dea beat Roma 2-1 in Bergamo.

This is the first time in their entire history that Bologna have qualified for the Champions League and it is one of the stories of the season, perhaps coming right after Bayer Leverkusen’s historic season of their own.

Thiago Motta has been linked with Juventus and while he could yet leave in the summer, but it is a season that will always live long in the memory of the club’s fans. They could yet finish third but all of it depends on Juventus’ results. Having said that, they have fate in their own hands as the Rossoblu will take on Juve in their next game.
