NPFL: Temple Emekayi Named New Rivers United Captain

Rivers United have named Temple Emekayi their new captain for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Head coach, Finidi George confirmed that the dependable centre-back will take the armband, having led the team since Nyima Nwagua’s departure and captained the side during the opening five matches this season.

The defender will be assisted by left-back Paul Odeh, who has also been named assistant captain.

He joined Rivers United in January 2019 and has established himself as one of the key players at the club.

Emekayi played an influential role in the team’s exploits in the NPFL and CAF Interclub competitions, including winning the 2021/2022 league title and back-to-back CAF Confederation’s Cup quarterfinal appearances.

The Pride of Rivers will face Katsina United in a matchday six fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
