In February 2009, construction work on the Nou Mestalla was halted because of Valencia’s financial problems. The stadium has remained untouched ever since, but after a long wait, it will finally be built.

As reported by MD, Valencia City Council have approved the building permit for Nou Mestalla, meaning that work can resume immediately on the proposed 50,000-seater stadium. However, the caveat for Los Che is that the project must be completed within the next 30 months from its resumption, which is required to be by January 2025.

The reason that Nou Mestalla has this deadline set is because the Spanish Football Federation has the stadium among its hosts for the 2030 World Cup, which will be played across Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Valencia would be fined by the City Council if the stadium is not erected on time, or also if plans are scrapped again. While either one of those scenarios would be concerning, fans will surely be looking forward to finally being in their new arena – possibly from the start of the 2027-28 season.
