Nottingham Forest Parts Ways with Manager Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest has officially parted ways with manager Steve Cooper following a 2-0 defeat at home to 10-man Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night.

The decision comes amidst Forest’s struggle with only one win since the September international break, placing them 17th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis expressed gratitude for Cooper’s contribution, acknowledging his pivotal role in guiding Forest back to the Premier League. Despite Cooper’s achievements, the club announced his departure on Tuesday.

Marinakis stated, “Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

“Former Wolves and Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to take charge of Forest ahead of their upcoming match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Cooper took the reins at Forest in September 2021 and, despite inheriting a team at the bottom of the Championship, secured promotion in his first season by defeating Huddersfield Town in the play-off final.

Despite a significant influx of 29 signings for their return to the top flight, Forest finished 16th and narrowly avoided relegation.

While the summer 2023 transfer window was quieter for Forest, results have not improved in their second successive Premier League season.
