Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on the opportunity to make the Premier League’s top four this season after losing 2-0 to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Spurs needed to beat the Citizens at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take the battle for fourth place into the final day of the season.

And while Tottenham played well at times and Man City were far from their best, the visitors had enough to get over the line with two second-half goals.

Spurs were level with the Citizens at the break, but Pep Guardiola’s charges eventually broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.

Bernardo Silva threaded a pass towards Kevin De Bruyne, who got in ahead of Radu Dragusin and squared for Erling Haaland to slam home.

In the build-up to the goal, Cristian Romero lost a 50-50 with Phil Foden, which kept City’s attack alive and culminated in their goal.

Gary Neville didn’t like what he saw from the £165,000-a-week defender, criticising him on Sky Sports after the reigning champions’ goal.

The Manchester City legend said on Sky Sports: “How many times have we seen that over the years?

“Romero losing the 50-50 to Foden’s not good enough and then we all know what’s coming.

“The pass into the channel before De Bruyne squares it. That’s a huge moment in this season.”

Admittedly, Romero defended well for the most part in the game – until City’s opener.

Later on in the game, the Argentina international clattered into Ederson, which resulted in the Citizens making a change.

Romero has come in leaps and bounds this season and has been looking better with Micky van de Ven next to him, but there’s still work to do for next term.
