Piotr Zielinski snubbed Saudi Arabia last summer to prolong his Napoli stay with the promise of a new contract, but the parties never finalized an agreement and don’t appear in a rush to do so. The Partenopei are banking on his reluctance to leave, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The veteran has fared well early and has already scored three times. He has taken advantage of the fact that Victor Osimhen is refusing to take PKs. He has been essential to Rudi Garcia’s schemes and is part of a ‘council of sages’ that helps the coach manage the team.
The matter should be urgent for Napoli since Zielinski would be out of contract in June without a new deal. He could technically seal a Bosman move from January on. The player and the club didn’t feel the urge to put pen to paper after deciding to stick together.
Lazio tried to lure him by offering his current wages, €3.5M per year. Al Ahli put €15M annually on the table, but it wasn’t enough. The Azzurri would like him to take a pay cut down to €2.5M annually until 2026. That’ll be tough to justify considering his strong displays.
