Manchester United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, will be serving a touchline suspension during the team’s upcoming Premier League face-off against Everton.

Ten Hag’s bookings in matches against Tottenham, Arsenal, and Luton Town have led to his touchline ban, compelling him to watch from the stands at Goodison Park.

In his absence, assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaag is set to step into the spotlight as the acting head on Sunday afternoon. This change in leadership comes at a crucial time for Manchester United, who not only face the challenges on the pitch but also navigate a charged atmosphere following the recent ten-point penalty imposed on the team.

Ten Hag expressed confidence in his backroom staff, emphasizing that he believes in their capabilities and experience. Alongside Van der Gaag, the coaching lineup includes Steve McClaren, former England manager, Eric Ramsay, and Benni McCarthy.

“I’m quite confident. I will have an even better overview [from the stands], but we have a very good backroom staff. They are very capable and experienced, so they know what to do. That will not affect our game,” stated Ten Hag during his pre-match press conference.

Van der Gaag, who accompanied Ten Hag to Manchester United last year after serving as an assistant at Ajax, brings a wealth of experience to the role. As a player, he featured prominently in the Eredivisie, Scottish Premier League, and Primeira Liga. Additionally, he made four appearances for the Netherlands Under-21s in the early 1990s.

Manchester United faces an Everton side grappling with a points deduction and currently residing five points adrift of safety. The Red Devils also contend with a string of injuries, with players like Casemiro, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez among those sidelined.

As the drama unfolds at Goodison Park, all eyes will be on Van der Gaag as he takes charge of the team in a critical fixture for Manchester United.
