AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is contemplating his future amid interest from several top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
As France’s primary goalkeeper, Maignan has solidified his position as one of the world’s top goalkeepers. Previously, Chelsea had expressed interest in him during negotiations with Milan involving Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic.
Despite wanting his next contract to reflect his recent progress, talks between Maignan and Milan over a new deal have reportedly been unsuccessful, and a fresh agreement is not on the horizon. The goalkeeper’s current contract with Milan extends until 2026.
Various clubs across Europe are monitoring the situation, with Paris Saint-Germain currently considered the frontrunners to secure the services of their former youth player, who achieved success at Lille by winning the 2020/21 Ligue 1 title.
PSG is reportedly considering parting ways with Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has faced challenges in maintaining consistency in France and recently received a red card for a controversial challenge in a 2-0 win over Le Havre.
Chelsea, despite acquiring Robert Sanchez in the summer, is actively seeking another goalkeeper and is closely monitoring the situation with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan. Bayern Munich also sees Maignan as a potential long-term successor to Manuel Neuer.
Chelsea previously set a world record for the most expensive goalkeeper in 2018 with the £72m acquisition of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Club. However, Kepa struggled with inconsistency and is currently earning positive reviews during his loan spell with Real Madrid.
In addition to Maignan, Chelsea is reportedly intensifying its pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian forward is becoming less likely to sign a new contract with the Italian champions.
