Girona have confirmed their first ever UEFA Champions League qualification place alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Catalan side battled back to seal a 4-2 win over rivals Barcelona, which ended their title defence, and clinched a top four place.

Victory against La Blaugrana caps an incredible season for Michel Sanchez’s side as they upset the established order at the top of the table.

Girona were tipped as shock title challengers at the start of 2024, but as their form faded, Real Madrid powered on towards the title.

Michel has confirmed he is determined to stay at Estadi Montilivi as he aims to continue his journey at the club.

The run in gives Girona a chance to finish in second place, and they hold a one point lead over third place Barcelona, with four league games left to play this month.

“It’s wonderful, I hope everyone enjoys it. It’s incredible”, as per quotes from Marca.

“We have 74 points. It’s incredible what these players have done. We have qualified for the Champions League, won against Barca and now we want to finish ahead of them.”

Up next for Girona is a trip to Alaves on May 10 as they try to hold off Barcelona.
