Manchester United plunged back into turmoil on Saturday evening, experiencing a dismal 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Despite the optimism following the comeback victory against Aston Villa, United delivered an attacking performance characterized by struggles to create shots on goal. They conceded a goal to Nicolas Dominguez in the second half.
An error from Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner allowed Marcus Rashford to score the equalizer briefly, but the parity was short-lived as Morgan Gibbs-White capitalized on defensive lapses, securing three points for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
Dominguez initiated a promising start for Forest with a blocked strike in the opening minute, and an uneasy clearance from Varane caused a tense moment for United’s goalkeeper Onana.
United’s first shot materialized in the 33rd minute when Wan-Bissaka’s attempt from outside the box was blocked and easily caught by Turner.
The initial 45 minutes lacked entertainment for neutrals, with United having 53% possession but only managing one shot on target, a tame effort from Wan-Bissaka. The second half brought a glimmer of excitement as Dalot’s long-range shot hit Turner’s post.
Despite United’s promising moments, they found themselves conceding as Dominguez capitalized on Montiel’s low cut-back to score. Turner’s egregious error gifted Rashford a straightforward equalizer 12 minutes before the final whistle.
Forest swiftly regained the lead three minutes later, with Gibbs-White curling a beautiful shot into the bottom corner after a counter started by Turner’s save.
Turner redeemed himself with a crucial save, tipping Fernandes’ strike over the bar late in the game, securing a much-needed victory for Forest.
