Man Utd Dealt new Injury Blow Ahead of Sheffield United Clash

Manchester United have confirmed Casemiro will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Sheffield United on Saturday due to an injury picked up during the international break.

There were fears over the Brazilian’s fitness after he was forced off in his country’s first international fixture of the month against Venezuela, asking to be substituted late on. He later missed training on Saturday but returned to the Selecao starting XI for the 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

The former Real Madrid star will not be present at Bramall Lane on Saturday night with United confirming he has stayed in Brazil for treatment on what they describe as a ‘small issue’.

Casemiro is suspended in the Champions League, meaning he will return to Erik ten Hag’s squad for the derby against Manchester City at the end of the month at the earliest.

His absence may see Scott McTominay rewarded with a start. The Scotland international bagged two goals late on to earn the Red Devils three unexpected points in the 2-1 victory against Brentford last time out.

There were more positive updates on defender Sergio Reguilon and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who were both spotted training at Carrington. Reguilon has been out for four games while Amrabat didn’t play in Morocco’s matches against Liberia and Ivory Coast.

Ten Hag is already without a number of important first-team players. Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are recovering from long-term injuries, while players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are still making their way back from knocks and may not be fit in time for Saturday night.

Jadon Sancho is still an outcast having publicly fallen out with Ten Hag, but Rasmus Hojlund managed to escape Denmark duty without sustaining a serious injury despite the best efforts of minnows San Marino, whose players he also accused of “saying nasty things to me”.
