Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell at Manchester United has been cut short, and he’s now back with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Spanish defender joined United in the summer of 2023 due to injuries to left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. However, with Shaw’s recovery and Malacia’s nearing return, alongside United’s focus on fewer competitions in the second half of the season. The Red Devils decided to terminate Reguilon’s loan.
In a statement, United expressed gratitude for Reguilon’s positive contribution during the first half of the season, acknowledging his role in providing cover for Shaw and Malacia. The club highlighted Shaw’s anticipated return from a minor injury and Malacia’s progress in recovery from a knee injury. Additionally, they mentioned Diogo Dalot’s versatility to cover the left-back position.
With fewer games in the upcoming period and the return of injured players. United concluded it was best for all parties involved for Reguilon to return to Spurs. The club appreciated Reguilon’s efforts during his time at United and wished him the best for his future at Tottenham.
