Facing an early deficit when Jack Harrison scored for the Toffees, City had to rally at Goodison Park.

Despite Everton’s unbeaten streak under Sean Dyche this season when scoring first, the newly crowned world champions showcased their prowess with a stellar second-half performance. Goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva sealed the victory for City.

The visitors showed no signs of fatigue from the Club World Cup as their possession dominance subdued a lively Goodison Park. Manchester City controlled the game in the opening 20 minutes, with Jordan Pickford making a crucial double save to deny them an early lead. Despite City’s initial dominance, Everton gained momentum through set-pieces, and Dwight McNeil capitalized on errors from Rodri and Silva to set up Jack Harrison for the opening goal.

City faced challenges as they were shackled by Everton, and John Stones’ injury disrupted their rhythm. However, Phil Foden’s thunderous strike early in the second half brought them level, and the world champions intensified their pressure. Julian Alvarez converted a penalty for City after an hour, but their control waned, giving Everton hope.

Substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin almost equalized, but a Jordan Pickford error allowed Bernardo Silva to secure a 3-1 victory for City with a late goal into an empty net.
