For a winger like Jack Grealish, Mohamed Salah must be an inspiration to him.

Salah is the gold standard for wide forwards in the Premier League and Grealish would likely study his game to reach similar heights as a player.

The pair are very different players, however, with the Liverpool legend being far more productive than the Manchester City technician, who profiles like a wide playmaker.

PREMIER LEAGUE STATS
SEASON SALAH’S G/A AT LIVERPOOL GREALISH’S G/A AT MAN CITY
2021/2022 36 6
2022/2023 31 12
2023/2024 28 4
2024/2025 37 1

Jack Grealish is yet to even reach half of Salah’s total league goal contributions in his three and a half seasons in a City shirt, which shows the level he must reached to be deemed comparable to the Egyptian.

As a result, it would perhaps be wise for the Englishman to analyse what he can add to his game by analysing the reasons behind Mohamed Salah’s success.

After all, there are not many more complete players in world football than the former Roma forward, let alone just widemen.

Jack Grealish says Mohamed Salah has become an “incredible” playmaker at Liverpool

Grealish has played against Salah plenty of times and watched him wreak havoc in the flesh and as a result, he needs no reminding of how outstanding a player the latter is.

The 32-year-old tends to fare very well against Manchester City in any case, as exemplified by him assisting and scoring for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Pep Guardiola’s men earlier this campaign.

In an interview with Bleacher Report, Grealish revealed that while Salah used to be far more direct in the past, he has now evolved into an elite playmaker.

“Bro, Salah’s playmaking over the last couple of years is incredible and I’m not saying he couldn’t do it before but before, he was more like so direct, scoring and stuff.”

“But he gets so many assists now.”

Salah, who is one of Arsene Wenger’s favourite players has certainly become a world-class creator, registering 14 league assists this season and just seven away from breaking Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s joint-record of 20 in a single campaign with 13 games to go.

The one thing Grealish has to learn from Salah to revive Man City career

Ultimately, it is very difficult for most wingers in the game to match the Champions League winner’s standards.

However, every wide attacker can learn a thing or two from Salah and Grealish is no different.

Perhaps the main facet of the former’s game that the three-time Premier League winner should try to learn is how productive he is.

Salah has all the talent in the world but his hunger for goals and assists combined with his intelligent positioning at all times ensure he is in the right place and at the right time to cause mayhem in the final third.

Grealish is struggling at Manchester City this season and for him to reclaim his spot in Pep Guardiola’s XI, it might be time for him to become much more bankable as both a goalscorer and a creator.

Whether the 28-year-old has the desire to make such a dramatic change in his game is the question.
