Man City & Liverpool Prepared to Fight Bayern Munich for Florian Wirtz

Wirtz, returning from an ACL injury in early 2023, has been instrumental in Leverkusen’s pursuit of their inaugural Bundesliga title this season.

Operating from the ‘number 10’ role, the 20-year-old has notched three goals and five assists in 13 appearances. Additionally, he boasts eight goal contributions in six games across the Europa League and DFB-Pokal.

Despite potential transfer speculations, Leverkusen has firmly ruled out deals for key players in the upcoming January transfer window, as reported by 90min.

Furthermore, Wirtz’s continuity with Leverkusen extends into the 2024/25 season, as confirmed by his father and agent, Hans-Joachim, stating to Sky Sport Germany: “Currently, everything is geared towards Florian continuing to play in Leverkusen next season.”

A potential transfer for Wirtz is more likely in 2025, with a preference for staying in Germany, making Bayern Munich an apparent domestic destination. However, Manchester City and Liverpool are not conceding in the pursuit of Wirtz, remaining strong contenders in the race for his signature.

City’s interest in Wirtz predates his 2022 injury, and this pursuit resumed earlier this year upon his return to the pitch. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United were also observers during that period, with Barcelona heavily linked.

City’s scouting presence was notable at Leverkusen’s recent win over Hoffenheim, where Wirtz scored. While he was the primary reason for the visit, City has also been impressed by 25-year-old midfielder Exequiel Palacios, another standout player for Leverkusen in recent months.
