Tottenham Hotspur fell to a third consecutive Premier League defeat on Thursday night to leave their top-four hopes hanging by a thread.

Spurs were flying in the first third or so of the season, even staking a claim as potential dark horses for the title at one point.

Then, even though Tottenham’s form dropped a little, they still looked good value to secure a top-four spot in the table.

That was until 13 April, when Spurs fell to a shock 4-0 loss at Newcastle United. Then, they followed it up with a 3-2 home loss to Arsenal.

On Thursday night, Chelsea awaited Tottenham and came out on top, as Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson struck to secure all three points.

Spurs have had several issues that will need to be addressed this season, including one that wasn’t too critical on the night but has come up over the course of the campaign.

The issue in question is Guglielmo Vicario’s lack of physicality and confidence from set pieces.

Although the £17million summer signing didn’t make any mistakes – indeed, he didn’t have much to do most of the night – he still looked nervous as some set pieces came in.

Gary Neville picked up on this while commentating on the game on Sky Sports in wake of a moment of goalmouth action in the 15th minute.

What did Gary Neville say about Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario?

Chelsea’s first corner of the game caused an issue as Vicario punched clear, but with the ball nearly rebounding off Pape Matar Sarr into a dangerous area.

Neville said: “When a goalkeeper looks anxious before it comes in he’s more often than not anxious when it does come in.

“He doesn’t get a good contact on it. You want your goalkeeper calm, composed.”

Vicario clearly is a talented goalkeeper for the most part, but this issue needs to be addressed in pre-season.

The £75,000-a-week ace could well become the Premier League’s stand-out stopper if he works on this.
