Lookman Scores as Osimhen Marks Return With Assist in Napoli’s Win at Atalanta

Victor Osimhen made a triumphant return from injury, providing an assist as Napoli secured a 2-1 victory against Atalanta in Serie A on Saturday.

Osimhen’s Super Eagles compatriot, Ademola Lookman, netted Atalanta’s goal, bringing his tally to four goals in 13 league appearances this season.

The Nigerian striker had been sidelined since October due to an injury sustained in a friendly against Saudi Arabia. Napoli’s new coach, Walter Mazzarri, enjoyed a winning debut, taking over from the dismissed Rudi Garcia.

Osimhen, initially among Napoli’s substitutes, entered the game in the 64th minute with the score level at 1-1. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 44th minute, heading in Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross. Atalanta responded in the 53rd minute when Lookman’s towering header from a right-wing cross found the far bottom corner.

Napoli regained the lead in the 79th minute when Osimhen, opting for an assist over a goal, delivered a precise pass across the box. Unmarked substitute Eljif Elmas capitalized, slotting in from six yards at the back post.

The victory propelled Napoli to third place in the league with 24 points, while Atalanta sits sixth in the standings. Osimhen’s impactful return and Napoli’s strategic win mark a promising turn in their Serie A campaign.
