Teenage winger Lamine Yamal hopes to ‘never’ leave Barcelona and instead has ambitions to become a legend at Camp Nou.

The 17-year-old made headlines in the summer after becoming the youngest ever player to score in the European Championships, before going on to eventually win the tournament with Spain.

At club level, Yamal is also of vital importance to Hansi Flick’s new-look Barca following a successful debut season with the Spanish giants.

Having already registered one goal and four assists in as many games this season, Yamal is committed to life at Barca and has revealed that he hopes to stay with the Catalan side for his entire career.

“I hope I never leave Barca. I hope to be a legend at Barcelona,” he told Spanish television show El Hormiguero.

Yamal was also asked if he enjoyed being compared to legends such as Lionel Messi, to which he continued: “Being compared to the best in history is incredible.

“It means you’re doing something right. Comparing yourself to him is very difficult. I try to be myself and be remembered as Lamine.”

The youngster was named on the list of nominees in contention for this year’s Kopa Trophy, an award that is given to the most impressive young player at the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony.

“We were in the elevator at the national team,” Yamal said when asked how he found out about his nomination. “First it came out that Nico [Williams] was there and then my friends told me that I was there too.

“[I don’t think I will win]. But it’s good to warm up, let’s see if I have a chance at some point.”

Barcelona return to action on Sunday when they travel to face Girona in La Liga. Yamal is expected to appear after enjoying a successful international break with Spain – securing a 4-1 win over Switzerland and a draw to Serbia.
