Spain 2-1 France

Spain have made it six wins from six at Euro 2024 by defeating France in Munich in the first semi-final, thus booking their place in Sunday’s showpiece event.

La Roja had a poor start to proceedings. Fabian Ruiz missed a guilt-edged chance inside five minutes, and moments later, Luis de la Fuente’s side fell behind. It was great work from Kylian Mbappe on the left, and his cross fell perfectly on to the head of Randal Kolo Muani, who succeeded where his Paris Saint-Germain teammate failed.

Fortunately, that goal did not affect Spain, and 10 minutes later, they found an equaliser in spectacular fashion. Lamine Yamal collected the ball 25 yards out, before curling an unstoppable effort past Mike Maignan, via the post. With that effort, the Barcelona winger became the youngest ever scorer in European Championship history.

Four minutes later, Spain made it 2-1. Dani Olmo did brilliantly to collect a loose ball inside France’s box, and his powerful strike flew past Maignan with the help of a deflection from Jules Kounde. The goal initial went to the Barcelona defender, before UEFA adjudged Olmo’s strike to be on target.

Spain dominated the first half, but in the second period, France made it much more even. They pressed for an equaliser, and their best opportunity fell to Mbappe, who left substitute Dani Vivian for dead before blazing an effort over the crossbar.

In the end, France’s fight came in vain, as Spain held on to book their place in the final. They will face the winner of semi-final number two, which takes place between England and The Netherlands on Wednesday.
