Jurgen Klopp has now shared why he is desperate to beat Tottenham.

The German welcomes Spurs to Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool look to resume winning ways, following a 2-0 defeat to Everton and a 2-2 draw against West Ham.

Liverpool do not really have much to play for anymore, with the title no longer a realistic prize, while UEFA Champions League qualification has already been secured.

That may lull Tottenham into a false sense of security, with some possibly believing that Liverpool will lack motivation on Sunday – although Jurgen Klopp has now revealed the reason why he is determined to beat Spurs this weekend…

Why Jurgen Klopp is desperate to beat Tottenham

Well, the 56-year-old still hasn’t got Luis Diaz’s ghost goal out of his head.

As you will surely remember, Liverpool were denied a perfectly good goal during the 2-1 loss to Tottenham back in September, following a miscommunication in the VAR booth.

Roughly seven months on from that incident, Klopp is still thinking about it, and has now revealed that he wants closure with a victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

Speaking in his press conference earlier on Friday, the man from Stuttgart said: “I don’t want to make it the biggest subject, but I can’t forget the Tottenham game as well, it’s just so strange. Only the other night for the first time since Tottenham, Simon Hooper was standing next to me for 90 minutes in a game I didn’t enjoy in the first place against Everton.

“He was there and he was the ref that night (at Tottenham). I tried to get it out of my head, but I couldn’t. So, now we play Tottenham and that was obviously not their fault that night, they just played the game, but I would like to win that game for 500 reasons, that we lost there and the way we lost is one of them.”

Spurs should expect a noisy Anfield

With UEFA Champions League qualification still mathematically there for Tottenham to grab, Spurs will have to bring their A-game to Merseyside.

The last thing Ange Postecoglou needs right now after defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea is a raucous Anfield, spurred on by an angry Klopp looking for closure.

Nevertheless, if Tottenham want to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, they will need to overcome challenges like this going forwards – to say the least.
