Joel Matip’s ACL recovery, expected to span seven to ten months, extends beyond his current Anfield contract ending in June.

This prompts speculation about his Liverpool future and the potential of being unemployed and not fully fit by summer.

During a media session on Friday, Klopp seemingly dispelled the notion of parting ways with Matip, expressing confidence in the club’s handling of the situation.

Klopp hinted at the possibility of Matip receiving a new contract, stating, “I’m pretty sure the club will show their class, just as they should.” While acknowledging his belief that Matip deserves an extension, Klopp clarified that the final decision lies beyond his authority.

Liverpool opted against signing a new center-back at the start of the season, relying on the emergence of Jarell Quansah from the youth ranks.

However, Matip’s injury and Joe Gomez being utilized as depth in full-back roles have left the team vulnerable.

Sources indicate that Liverpool initially planned to secure a new center-back in the summer of 2024 but are now contemplating an earlier move in the January transfer window.

Players like Goncalo Inacio, Lucas Beraldo, Piero Hincapie, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Arthur Theate were previously scouted, but the pressing need for reinforcement has prompted Liverpool to reassess both names and timing.

While some top-listed players may be unavailable in January, Liverpool is considering Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as a more feasible option.

Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg and Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice, also linked with Manchester United, are additional contenders for Liverpool. The club is likely exploring other potential signings as well.
