Giovani Lo Celso has had yet another strange season at Tottenham.

Lo Celso’s time at Spurs has been topsy-turvy to say the least. The Argentine has spent a lot of time out on loan and a lot of time on the bench.

However, this season, Lo Celso stuck with Tottenham, and he had some solid moments for the north London club where he looked quality, but, most of the time, he was left on the bench.

Heading into the final year of his contract, Lo Celso is a player who has been tipped to leave Spurs this summer after spending a lot of time on the bench.

However, speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Josh Hughes has claimed that the latest he’s heard on Lo Celso is that Tottenham are actually looking to give him a new contract.

Tottenham looking to give Giovani Lo Celso a new contract

Hughes shared what he’s heard about Lo Celso.

“I don’t know because the last I have heard is that Spurs were looking to try to offer him a new contract which is absolutely baffling because he’s not getting minutes. I don’t recall a time this season where he’s been bad on the pitch,” Hughes said.

Lo Celso new deal is baffling

Lo Celso is a good player, but it’s hard to see the logic behind giving him a new contract at this point.

He’s on big money and he’s a fringe player at best, everything points towards cashing in this summer and making some sort of money back.

Lo Celso is certainly good enough to play a part at Tottenham, but based on last season, he’s not going to be a key cog in Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forwards, so a new deal doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Whether or not the midfielder does get a new deal remains to be seen, but, as Hughes says, this does seem to be a bit of a bizarre development.
