Arsenal have enjoyed a solid season and remain in the picture for the Premier League title.
The Gunners also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in their first season back in the competition for years.
Edu and Mikel Arteta have done a great rebuilding job on the Arsenal squad, and this summer could yet see more additions.
Now, a report has emerged claiming the Gunners have set their sights on one of the Championship’s best young players.
According to journalist Paul Abbandonato, Arsenal have set their sights on Cardiff City attacker Rubin Colwill.
The former head of sport for Wales Online took to X to say: “Told couple of weeks back Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Colwill. Seems others are interested too.
“Reminded me of when previous regime sold (Aaron) Ramsey for just £5m, among worst bits of Welsh footie transfer business.
“Swansea got 3 times that for (Joe) Allen, who wasn’t at Aaron’s level.”
Who is Arsenal target Rubin Colwill?
Rubin Colwill is a 22-year-old attacking midfielder who has come through the ranks at Cardiff and also plays his international football for Wales.
He made his professional debut for the Bluebirds in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength, with the 2023/24 campaign arguably his best yet.
Colwill has won Cardiff’s Young Player of the Season award for his efforts this term. He has made 39 appearances in all competitions, registering three goals and four assists.
Colwill has been playing at No. 10 for the most part this term, but has also featured on both flanks, as a midfielder and even as a centre-forward, as per Transfermarkt.
A fan on X described him as “basically a homegrown version of Kai Havertz”.
Cardiff boss Erol Bulut told Wales Online this week: “When I saw Rubin in pre-season, how he was on the field and where he is right now, I think there’s a big step. A big, big step.
“Now he’s the target of many Premier League clubs. I didn’t say that we would let him leave! I just said he was a target of many Premier League clubs.
“It doesn’t surprise me because I knew at the start of the season that he can be much better. He worked hard on it, he listened to us and I still believe he can do much more.
“He is running everywhere, he wants to make everything happen.
“Sometimes you have to handle that better and he will then look much, much better and he will be at that level and then we cannot hold him to be here.”
