The midfielder concluded his 12-year tenure at Anfield in July, joining Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq, marking a reunion with his former Liverpool and England teammate.

According to the Daily Mail, Henderson is ‘eager to make a Premier League comeback’ and is open to a significant pay cut, potentially facing a £7 million tax bill to secure a move in this transfer window.

His reported £700,000-a-week wage is tax-free only after a minimum two-year stay.Adapting to life in Saudi Arabia has proven challenging for Henderson, with high temperatures and stifling humidity contributing to his discontent.

Additionally, Al Ettifaq has struggled to attract large crowds this season, averaging just 7,800 attendees in a 35,000-seater stadium.

Gerrard faces scrutiny as Al Ettifaq holds the eighth spot in the Saudi Pro League standings, compounded by the departure of assistant Ian Foster, who played a role in convincing Henderson to move to the Middle East, taking the manager’s position at Plymouth Argyle.

While Henderson desires a return to the Premier League, meeting his wage demands poses a challenge for most top-flight English clubs, even if he agrees to a pay cut.Criticism has surrounded Henderson’s move to Al Ettifaq, especially considering the country’s stance on homosexuality.

This shift contrasts with his previous vocal support for the LGBTQ+ community. Despite the controversy, the 33-year-old has contributed with 19 appearances and five assists for Al Ettifaq this season.
